HISTORY AT STAKE AT THE 2024 CANADIAN CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES

In this crucial Olympic and Paralympic season, Athletics Canada revealed today the 11 events that will make up the 2024 Canadian Championships Series.

The Series begins in mid-March with the 2024 Canadian Indoor Track & Field Championships before heading outdoors through the spring, summer and fall, spanning five provinces.

Canadian champions will be crowned in all disciplines of Athletics, as the country’s best vie for national supremacy on the track, field, road, trail and mountain.

"Earning the title of Canadian Champion carries a lot of weight for an athlete. Over the course of the season, hundreds of athletes are going to compete across different disciplines, at 10 Canadian Championship Series Events across the country, with the goal of adding a national championship to their legacy," said Athletics Canada CEO Mathieu Gentès. "We have an elite team of local event organizers who will make sure the athletes, coaches and officials taking to the field of play will be part of world-class events."

With Paris 2024 on the horizon, not to mention a jam-packed slate of world and area championships on the competition calendar, several of this year's Canadian Championships will influence the selection process to national teams. After all, the 2024 Canadian Track & Field Championships also serve as the 2024 Canadian Olympic and Paralympic Trials. Fans can expect a stellar field to descend on Montreal to try an earn a place on Canada’s Olympic or Paralympic team.

Highlights from 2023

The 2023 Canadian Championship Series saw plenty of action and notable performances.

There was the duel between two of Canada’s fastest distance runners at the Canadian 10K Championships, when Mohammed Ahmed earned his first career Canadian road title, edging out Cam Levins. Don’t feel too bad for Levins, though. He added to his list of national titles when he bagged another Canadian Half Marathon championship later in the season.

The 2023 Canadian Track & Field Championships returned to Langley, BC and west coast athletes left their mark on their way to World Championships. Camryn Rogers set a new Canadian Championships record in the women’s hammer throw: 77.43 metres. Ethan Katzberg accomplished the same thing on the men’s side. His throw of 78.73 metres on Day 3 is now the furthest in Canadian Championships history.

Two new marathon champions were crowned in Toronto, when Caroline Pomerleau and Thomas Broatch broke through to claim their first national titles.
