Jake Robertson to Race His Second Marathon in Toronto

By Adam Kopet

Jake Robertson announced Wednesday that he will race the 2018 Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon on Oct. 21.

Robertson moved to Kenya from New Zealand as a teenager with his twin brother, Zane, to chase their dreams of becoming world-class runners. That dedication has begun to pay off for the 28-year-old Jake, who has found success on the roads.

Earlier this year, Robertson won the Houston Half Marathon in 1:00:01, equaling his personal best and New Zealand record set a year prior in Lisbon. He followed that up with a third-place finish at the Lake Biwa Marathon, clocking 2:08:26. That took 33 seconds off Rod Dixon's New Zealand marathon record.

Robertson has performed well over 10 kilometers as well, winning the Crescent City Classic and Beach to Beacon. The former saw him equal his brother's national record of 27:28

Robertson's recent road success has come among success on the track as well. He finished fifth in the 10,000 meters at this year's Commonwealth Games, running 27:30.90.

With Robertson's next marathon date set, he is primarily looking for one thing. He wants to win the race. However, a fast time is on his mind. He would like to break the course record of 2:06:52, and would be happy if the pace set him up for a 2:05 finish. For more information, read the IAAF preview of Robertson's race.

The 2018 Toronto Waterfront Marathon will serve as this year's Canadian National Marathon Championship. It will be streamed live on AthleticsCanada.TV.
